JA5-1Johnny Adamic, M.A., CPT-NASM, RYT-200  jumps out of bed each morning with one goal in mind: To help people transform their lives towards health.

A native of Wisconsin, Johnny escaped the snow and moved to New York City in 2009 to finish his Master’s degree in Food Studies at New York University (NYU). Johnny previously studied the History of Food and Culture at the University of Bologna, Italy in a European Master’s program.

After earning his Master’s degree, Johnny worked from 2010-2012 at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) in the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention and Tobacco Control.  From 2012-2014, Johnny served on former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Obesity Task Force. Throughout is tenure working for New York City, Johnny helped to create opportunities for New Yorkers to achieve physical activity and access healthy, affordable, and fresh foods and beverages in daily living.

Johnny currently earns his living consulting wellness companies, writing as a freelance journalist and teaching yoga and exercise classes, as well as personal training.

A Nationally Certified Personal Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM-CPT) and a Yoga Teacher (RYT-200, YogaWorks) Johnny has a passion for health promotion and obesity prevention. The adage for his website and blog, “Embrace the Bitter,” serves as his philosophy to gain good health.  Johnny believes that achieving health can be a tough and bitter task. It involves eating a plant-based diet, which alludes to vegetables, a generally bitter food, and carrying out physical activity, a rather bitter endeavor. But when people eat more plants and exercise more regularly, it is these specific actions that can transform lives, prevent the on-set of many chronic diseases, and lead to a more fulfilling life.

Johnny The Cook:

Johnny’s  attitude and ability to turn nothing into something in the kitchen is unprecedented–an unorthodox approach he embodies each day himself while cooking at home. Trained in the Italian region of Abruzzo, Johnny acquired his cooking skills shadowing his family in the kitchens at their Agriturismi (self-sustaining B&B’s) and restaurants in Italy.  In New York City, Johnny understands the confines and challenges involved with cooking..anything.  Nevertheless, he has found a methodology that is teachable, realistic, time-friendly, and above all, health conscious.  To learn more about cooking with Johnny, shoot him an email.
